BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The No. 16 Texas A&M men's tennis team opens SEC play with an 11 a.m. home match against the undefeated Ole Miss Rebels on Saturday at the Mitchell Tennis Center.
The Aggies (7-3) are coming off a solid performance at the National Team Indoor Championships last week that included a 4-0 sweep of the UC-Santa Barbara Gauchos and narrow defeats at the hands of league foes Texas (4-2) and LSU (4-3). Freshman Markus Molder led the Maroon & White, going 2-1 in the tournament, including a straight set win over Mariano Dedura-Palomero of Texas, 7-6(3), 6-3.
The latest ITA polls boast three Aggies in the Top 125 singles and two duos in the Top 90 rankings. Sophomore Theo Papamalamis claimed the No. 78 spot after a 4-1 start to dual action. Fellow sophomore Alex Frusina follows at No. 108, with junior Kholo Montsi rounding out the rankings at No. 112. Frusina and Montsi hold the No. 61 spot with a 6-1 doubles dual record, with the tandem of Papamalamis and senior Togan Tokac at No. 80.
Ole Miss has had an undefeated start to the season, going 12-0 in non-conference action. The Aggies lead the all-time series since 2009, 11-6. The teams met last season in Oxford, with the Maroon & White sweeping, 4-0. Papamalamis is the only current player to pick up a singles win.
