No. 8 Aggies Dominant Singles Display Takes Down Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 8 Texas A&M men's tennis team's strong display in singles overpowered Florida State's early advantage, 4-1, at the Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center Friday.
Junior Tiago Pires clinched the win for the Aggies after earning a ranked win over No. 91 Azariah Rusher on court 4. After a neck-and-neck first set, Pires dominated in the second to clinch the match, 7-5, 6-0.
The Maroon & White (6-0) came up shorthanded in doubles action after losses at the first and third line. The No. 33 duo of Alex Frusina and Kholo Montsi picked up their fourth straight win at line 2 over Rusher and Mohammad Alkotop, 6-2.
Senior Togan Tokac quickly put the Aggies on the board after downing No. 52 Alkotop on court 5. Tokac only dropped one game, 6-1, 6-0, starting the turn of the tide in favor of the Maroon & White.
Freshman Kriish Tyagi gave the team the advantage with a victory over Gabor Hornung on court 6, 6-1, 6-3. Montsi put the Aggies one away from the clinch after a win over Erik Schiessl on court 3, 6-3, 6-3, extending his dual record to 5-0.
The Aggies return to the Lone Star State to face Baylor at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center on Monday, Feb. 9 at 6 p.m.
