Two-Out Sixth-Inning Rally Pushes Softball Past No. 1 Oklahoma, 8-5
May 01, 2026 | Softball
COLLEGE STATION – A five-run, two-out sixth-inning rally propelled the No. 12 Texas A&M softball team past No. 1 Oklahoma, 8-5, on Friday at Davis Diamond, marking the program's first home win over a top-ranked opponent since 2016.
Thursday's series opener was halted due to weather and resumed Friday in the bottom of the sixth inning with the Aggies trailing 5-3 and one out. Texas A&M (36-14, 16-6 SEC) flipped the script with a two-out rally, plating five runs highlighted by three consecutive singles to even the score before Micaela Wark's bases-loaded single up the middle cleared the bases to give the Aggies an 8-5 lead.
Pinch hitter Maddie Sauni brought the Aggies within one with an RBI single up the middle before Kennedy Powell followed with a single. Tallen Edwards then singled to left field to tie the game.
Edwards, Wark and Paislie Allen each recorded multiple RBI, while Edwards, Wark and Powell paced the offense with multiple hits. Seven Aggies scored a run, while Powell plated multiple runs for the 17th time this season.
Sidne Peters (14-5) earned the win after tossing 2.0 scoreless relief innings with three strikeouts while holding Oklahoma (46-7, 18-4 SEC) hitless. Kate Munnerlyn provided 3.0 innings of relief, allowing one unearned run on one hit and two walks. Sydney Lessentine made the start, tossing 2.0 innings with a pair of strikeouts while allowing four unearned runs on three hits.
The Sooners struck first in the second inning, capitalizing on a fielding error and plating four two-out runs on a single, double and two-run home run to take a 4-0 lead.
Texas A&M cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the second after Ariel Kowalewski drew a one-out walk, Kelsey Mathis doubled and Allen delivered a two-RBI single through the middle.
After a scoreless third inning, Oklahoma added another run in the fourth on a two-out double followed by an Aggie fielding error that allowed the runner to score from second, extending the lead to 5-2.
Powell led off the fifth with a single and scored in the next at-bat when Edwards doubled down the right field line to trim the deficit to 5-3.
Play was halted overnight in the sixth inning and resumed Friday, where Ol' Sarge's charges capitalized with a five-run, two-out rally to take an 8-5 lead. Peters then slammed the door shut with a looking strikeout, swinging strikeout and induced foul out to seal the victory.
