Freshcorn Selected as Finalist for NCBWA Stopper of the Year Award

DALLAS – Texas A&M relief pitcher Clayton Freshcorn was named one of 14 finalists for the Stopper of the Year Award, as announced by the National College Baseball Writers Association Thursday morning.
The right-hander becomes the first Aggie reliever to be selected as a finalist for the honor since Evan Aschenbeck won the award in 2024.
Freshcorn appeared in 27 games for the Maroon & White, including 26 outings from the bullpen. The Waller, Texas, native boasted a 4-3 record in 54.1 innings of work with a 2.82 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP. The right-hander struck out 56 batters in 2026 while issuing just six walks. His 12 saves on the season are tied for sixth-most nationally and rank in a tie for third-most in a single season at Texas A&M. Freshcorn's seven saves in SEC play tied for the most in the conference.
Of his 12 saves in the 2026 campaign, nine were outings of multiple innings. The 14 saves in Freshcorn's career rank sixth on the Maroon & White's all-time leaderboard.
The winner of the 2026 Stopper of the Year Award will be announced during a news conference at the College World Series on Friday, June 12, at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha.
