BATON ROUGE, La. - The No. 5 Texas A&M softball team fell to Ohio State, 2-0, on Sunday morning at the Easton Tiger Classic. The Aggies are now 5-4 while the Buckeyes improved to 8-1.
“Offensively we couldn't quite put it together,” said head coach Jo Evans. “We have been setting the table and getting runners on we just haven't been able to get the timely hit. Reeder did a good job against us and we had too many strikeouts. Kliesing came in in relief and she was outstanding.”
The only scoring in the game came in the third inning as Ohio State's Courtney Pruner hit a two-run home run to left field.
A&M had their best chance to plate a run in the bottom of the fourth. Senior Holly Ridley drew a lead-off walk and was sacrificed to second by junior Alex Reynolds. Senior Erin Glasco reached base on a Buckeye error and Ridley advanced to third, but the Aggies were unable to push any runs across in the inning.
A&M had runners in scoring position in the second, fourth and sixth innings, and retired Ohio State in order the last three innings.
Collecting hits for the Aggies were sophomore Kelsey Spittler and Glasco. Ridley walked twice in the game, while sophomore Natalie Villarreal drew one walk.
Kim Reeder improved to 4-1 with the win in the circle, while freshman Rebecca Arbino evened her record at 2-2 with the loss.
A&M plays their final game of the tournament against No. 21 LSU at approximately 1:15 p.m. Log on to AggieAthletics.com for live audio and live stats.
