Jun 05, 2016 | Baseball
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The No. 1 Texas A&M Aggies look to capture their eighth NCAA Regional title Sunday as they face either Minnesota or Wake Forest in a championship game on Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.
The Maroon and White are coming off one of their most prolific postseason performances, logging a 22-2 win over Wake Forest on Saturday evening. Eleven different Aggies recorded hits, including nine players with multiple hits. The 22 runs ranked third for Texas A&M in NCAA Championship play behind a pair of wins in 1989 against BYU (25-4) and Jackson State (23-3).
Texas A&M is on a six-game win streak, including the four games they won to claim the SEC Tournament title last week in Hoover. Over the six-game win streak, AUSTIN HOMAN is hitting .560 (11-for-18) with six runs, four doubles and nine RBI. MICHAEL BARASH is batting .478 (11-for-23) with eight runs, three doubles and nine RBI and JONATHAN MORONEY is hitting .458 (11-for-24), nine runs, two home runs, 10 RBI over the span.
The Aggies have extended their school-record string of consecutive NCAA Championships to 10. It marks the 11th time the Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park complex will host an NCAA Regional.
Sunday's contest is set to air on the SEC Network. Clay Matvick (play-by-play) and Gabe Gross (color analyst) will be on the call. Every game of the College Station Regional can be seen via the WatchESPN app with credentials required through respective cable providers.
