No. 1 Aggies Sweep Doubleheader, Clinch Series at No. 12 Alabama

The Maroon & White plated 10 unanswered runs in the opening contest en route to a 10-5 come-from-behind victory before clinching the series with an 18-9 win in game two.
Braden Montgomery powered the offensive attack for the Aggies as the junior went 3-for-6 with two homers, three runs scored, four walks and seven RBI on the day. Freshman Caden Sorrell followed with two homers and six RBI in the two contests. As a team, the Maroon & White registered 28 runs on 29 hits and belted eight homers. A total of four Aggies recorded at least four hits, while six launched a homer in the doubleheader sweep.
GAME ONE: Texas A&M 10, Alabama 5
Chris Cortez earned his third straight win in relief after allowing one run on two hits over 2.1 innings of work. Lefty Shane Sdao picked up his second save of the year after tossing 3.2 scoreless frames to go along with five strikeouts. The scoreless appearance marked the sophomore's eighth of the year.
Sorrell led the charge offensively for the Maroon & White as the freshman went 2-for-5 with a pair of homers and five RBI. Montgomery followed with three RBI of his own, while Jackson Appel added two. Ali Camarillo, Appel and Jace LaViolette also registered a multi-hit game for the Maroon & White.
The Crimson Tide struck first with a three-run frame in the third that featured a solo homer and a two-run double to left center.
After Alabama pushed its lead to 5-0 in the fourth with a two-run homer, the Aggies responded with a six-run frame in the fifth to jump in front 6-5. Following back-to-back hits to open the frame, Montgomery plated the Maroon & White's first run with a sac fly to center. In the next at-bat, Appel cut the deficit to 5-2 with an RBI double to the gap in right center.
Back-to-back walks loaded the bases for Sorrell, who drilled a 2-1 pitch over the wall in right to cap off the six-run frame and put the Aggies in front, 6-5. The grand slam marked the first of the rookie's career.
The six-run fifth marked the fourth time that Texas A&M has accomplished the feat in the last five games.
In the sixth, the Aggies extended their lead to 9-5 courtesy of back-to-back homers from Montgomery and Appel.
After LaViolette drew a leadoff walk, Montgomery blasted his 21st homer of the year 444 feet over the wall in right center. Appel followed with a 398-foot solo shot to right center, marking the senior's seventh long ball of the year.
Sorrell launched his second homer of the day in the seventh to stretch the Aggie lead to 10-5. The multi-homer game marked the first of the freshman's career.
Sdao worked around a hit in each of the final three innings to seal the 10-5 victory for Texas A&M.

GAME TWO: Texas A&M 18, Alabama 9
The Aggie offense stayed hot in game two of the doubleheader, totaling 18 runs on a season-high 18 hits. All nine batters recorded a hit, while seven of them registered multiple hits. Appel and Gavin Grahovac recorded a game-best three hits, while LaViolette, Montgomery and Hayden Schott plated a team-high four RBI.
On the mound, Brock Peery earned the win to improve to 2-0 on the year after registering a scoreless frame. Starter Tanner Jones earned a no-decision after allowing six runs, five earned, over 4.1 innings of work.
The Maroon & White exploded for eight runs on eight hits in the second to snatch command of game two early. Schott put the Maroon & White on the board with a three-run homer to left before RBI singles from Sorrell, LaViolette, Montgomery and Appel stretched the advantage to 8-0. All nine batters in the lineup reached base safely in the frame.
The Crimson Tide responded in the bottom half of the frame with a grand slam to cut the lead in half, 8-4.
In the fourth, the Aggies took advantage of an Alabama error and plated three more runs to up their lead to 11-4. Schott recorded his fourth RBI game with a single to left and Camarillo followed with a two-run single to center.
Grahovac joined the home run party in the fifth as the freshman launched his 14th of the year over the wall in left, scoring Chestnut to stretch the advantage to 13-4.
The Crimson Tide answered in the bottom half of the fifth with three runs to trim the lead to 13-7.
In the seventh, Montgomery ripped a three-run homer to straightaway center to push the advantage back to nine, 16-7. The long ball marked the 22nd of the year for the junior and second of the doubleheader.
After allowing a two-run homer in the eighth, the Aggies answered with one of their own in the ninth as LaViolette lifted his 19th of the year over the wall in right to make the final 18-9.
