BIRMINGHAM – Texas A&M athletics was represented by 71 student-athletes on the 2023-24 Winter SEC Academic Honor Roll, SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey announced Thursday.
The Aggie honor roll list includes student-athletes from five different sports, and the Maroon & White saw five more student-athletes earn the honor than last year's installment.
"The Texas A&M Athletics Department and Center for Student-Athlete Services are immensely proud of the hard work and dedication that our student-athletes have displayed in the classroom," Associate Athletics Director of Academic Services Dr. Dan Childs said. "The latest winter honor roll selections indicate that our student-athletes continue to prioritize academic achievement and for that, we are extremely proud. The Center for Student-Athlete Services will continue to support our students so that they can maximize their potential in the classroom, achieve academic success and develop those transferable skills to help them in life beyond athletics."
Equestrian led the way with 28 honorees and women's swimming & diving followed with 25. Additionally, men's swimming & diving featured 13 on the list with men's basketball and women's basketball landing two and three, respectively.
The following criteria was followed:
(1) A student-athlete must have a grade point average of 3.00 or above for either the preceding academic year (two semesters or three quarters) or have a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution.
(2) If a student-athlete attends summer school, his/her grade point average during the summer academic term must be included in the calculation used to determine eligibility for the Academic Honor Roll.
(3) Student-athletes eligible for the Honor Roll include those receiving an athletics scholarship, recipients of an athletics award (i.e., letter winner), and non-scholarship student-athletes who have been on a varsity team for two seasons.
(4) Prior to being nominated, a student-athlete must have successfully completed 24 semester or 36 quarter hours of non-remedial academic credit toward a baccalaureate degree at the nominating institution.
