No. 3 Aggies Set to Open Play at SEC Tournament Wednesday

HOOVER, Ala. – The No. 3 Texas A&M baseball team turns its attention to the postseason as they open the SEC Tournament against the winner of No. 5 seed Mississippi State (36-19) and No. 12 seed Ole Miss (27-28) Wednesday evening from Hoover Metropolitan Stadium in Hoover, Ala.
Wednesday's contest is scheduled to air on SEC Network and can also be heard locally on SportsRadio 1150AM/93.7 The Zone. Fans can also follow along with the games on X, @AggieBaseball. The Aggies (44-11) enter the tournament as the No. 4 seed after taking two of three against No. 2 Arkansas over the weekend. At the event, the Maroon & White are 18-12 all-time and 6-3 in opening games. Under Head Coach Jim Schlossnagle, Texas A&M is 6-3.
On Monday, the Aggies landed a league-best five players on the All-SEC First and Second Teams. Catcher Jackson Appel, outfielders Braden Montgomery and Jace LaViolette and relief pitcher Evan Aschenbeck earned a spot on the first team, while starter Ryan Prager was named to the second team. LaViolette and Montgomery also garnered All-Defensive Team honors.
Third baseman Gavin Grahovac was tabbed as the SEC Freshman of the Year, becoming the second player in program history to earn the award. The rookie was also named to the Freshman All-SEC team along with Caden Sorrell.
For the seventh time in the last eight weeks, the Aggies are a unanimous Top 5 team in the polls. The Maroon & White checked in at No. 3 in the NCBWA and USA Today polls, while D1Baseball and Baseball America ranked them No. 4. Perfect Game placed the Aggies at No. 5 in its latest poll.
Under first year pitching coach Max Weiner, the Aggie pitching staff has lowered its ERA by nearly two runs. The Maroon & White rank first in shutouts (10), third in strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.36), fifth in WHIP (1.23), sixth in ERA (3.92), 10th in strikeouts per nine (10.8), 10th in walks allowed (3.22) and 12th in hits allowed per nine (7.86). The staff's 10 shutouts are tied for the second most in program history with the 1976 team.
Offensively, Texas A&M ranks third nationally in walks (349), fifth in homers (121), fifth in homers per game (2.20), seventh in slugging percentage (.573), ninth in runs (493), 16th in on-base percentage (.424) and 16th in scoring (9.0).
