BIRMINGHAM – Texas A&M's Carter Bajoit of track & field and Devon Thomas of equestrian earned Brad Davis SEC Community Service Leaders Awards, the league announced Thursday.
The school award winners will each receive a $7,500 post-graduate scholarship provided by the SEC and are nominees for the Male and Female Brad Davis Community Service Leaders of the Year which will be announced later in May.
The SEC Community Service Post-Graduate Scholarship is named for former Associate Commissioner Brad Davis. Davis succumbed to cancer on March 2, 2006. He had been a member of the SEC staff since 1988, first serving as an assistant commissioner until 1994 when he was promoted to associate commissioner.
Bajoit is a standout student-athlete and three-year team captain, known for his leadership and commitment to service. He leads weekly Bible studies through Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), helped raise $36,000 for a mission trip to Panama, and launched PROJECT CHRISTMAS to support over 300 people in Houston each year.
From mentoring youth at the Boys & Girls Club to serving in the Dominican Republic, Carter's impact earned him a spot on the 2024 SEC Community Service Team and the honor of speaking at Texas A&M's athletics graduation ceremony.
Bajoit completed his collegiate track & field career following the conclusion of the indoor season, where he helped lead the men's team to its first SEC Indoor Championships title. Earlier this week, he was named to the inaugural Spring Allstate NACDA Good Works Team for his exceptional achievements in community service, athletics and academics.
"To be a recipient of an award with the magnitude of the Brad Davis Community Service Award is one of the greatest privileges I have had in my time here at Texas A&M," Bajoit said. "To embody parallel efforts as the distinguished leaders before me and be placed in the same room is truly an honor. It has been a great pleasure of mine to serve alongside my team and community throughout my time at Texas A&M, and while I have aimed to make an impact, I would be wrong to say a greater impact had not been done to me in return. Thank you for the honor of this award."
Thomas, who serves as the Vice President of Selfless Service for the Texas A&M Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, also earned a spot on the SEC Community Service team for the second straight season. In her role, the fifth-year senior organizes most of the service projects for student-athletes. Thomas also oversees the planning and organization with local schools and teachers for REVved Up to Read, a reading program for second grade students.
In addition, the Millburn, New Jersey, native has volunteered at the critical care unit at St. Joseph, TAMU Build, BCS Together Fall Festival and Aggieland Humane Society.
"I am incredibly honored and proud to be a recipient of the SEC Brad Davis Community Service Post-Graduate Scholarship," Thomas said. "This award reflects my dedication to giving back to the community and upholding the Aggie Core Value of selfless service. It is a privilege to have been selected and to be recognized for my community service efforts amongst so many deserving individuals. This award inspires me to continue serving others and making differences as I pursue my post-graduate goals in healthcare."
The male and female Community Service Leaders of the Year will each receive a $15,000 post-graduate scholarship, provided by the SEC. Last year, Texas A&M's Kenner Taylor earned the distinction of Male Brad Davis Community Service Leader of the Year.
