NCAA TOURNAMENT NOTES
Texas A&M (46-9) was tabbed the No. 1 national seed in the NCAA Division I Softball Tournament, marking the first time in program history to be declared the top overall seed. The Aggies are making their 35th appearance and 23rd-straight appearance in the tournament, the seventh longest active streak in the NCAA. A&M boasts a 94-73 overall record in NCAA action, including a 36-8 record when hosting the regional round. This season marks the 17th time to host a regional in program history and the first in consecutive years since the 2017 and 2018 seasons. Texas A&M moved into the winners bracket of the Bryan-College Station Regional after an 18-0 five inning no-hit run-rule rout of Saint Francis (PA) Friday evening. The 18 runs marked a program regional record, while the combined no-hitter tossed by Sydney Lessentine and Sidne Peters was the fourth regional no-hitter in program history and first since 2008. Texas A&M was walked 14 times, the third most walks in NCAA Regional history. A&M returns 56% (19-of-34) of its run production from last year's postseason stretch that reached the super regional round for the first time since 2018. Wooley leads the group of returners after posting a .478 batting average going 11-for-23, including one double, while adding one RBI and six runs in last season's run. Kennedy Powell was 7-for-23 (.304) at the dish with a double and a home run, while adding four RBI and four runs. Emiley Kennedy led the Aggies in the pitching circle in 2024 with a 3-1 ledger, including three complete games in four starts with two shutouts. She struck out 17 batters in 27.2 innings of work with a 3.54 ERA.
LIBERTY PREVIEW
Liberty advanced to the winners bracket of the Bryan-College Station Regional after a pair of four-run innings helped propel the Lady Flames to a 10-5 victory over Marist on Friday. Liberty moved to 48-12, while snapping the Red Foxes 17-game winning streak. The Lady Flames are one of two schools outside a power conference to have made an NCAA Regional every year since 2021, while they appeared in the Georgia Regional final a season ago before eventually falling in the "if-necessary" game. Liberty is led by CUSA Head Coach of the Year Dot Richardson. Rachel Roupe was named CUSA Player of the Year, while Elena Escobar was voted CUSA Pitcher of the Year and Savanah Whatley was named CUSA Newcomer of the Year. Texas A&M is 3-1 all-time against Liberty, including a 1-1 record at Davis Diamond after splitting a pair of games in 2019.
RUN IT UP
Ol' Sarge's charges have scored double-digit runs in 21 games this season, while winning 19 games via run-rule The Maroon & White have outscored their opponents 242-98 in home games and have outscored their previous four opponents 57-6. Texas A&M is 32-0 in games when scoring six or more runs, including 13 games against ranked opponents. Kennedy Powell has steadily been climbing the Texas A&M all-time ranks in scoring. Powell is only one run away from breaking the Aggie program record of 60 runs in a season set by Sharonda McDonald in 2007. The Aggies are 34-5 in games when Powell scores a run, including a 17-1 record when she scores multiple times. Under head coach Trisha Ford, the Aggies are 7-4 in postseason play with a +26 run differential. In contrast, in the two seasons prior to her arrival, the Aggies went 3-4 with a -14 run differential in postseason games.
KOKO GOES LOCO
Koko Wooley is one of the most dynamic athletes on Texas A&M's roster, if not the nation, and is a fan favorite among the 12th Man. When postseason time rolls around, the senior has risen to the occasion. In 15 games in her NCAA postseason career, Wooley is batting .500 at the dish (26-for-52), including two triples, one double, while adding 14 runs and four RBI. Big Ko recently snapped out of a 0-for-14 slump with a game-winning RBI double in a 1-0 thriller at No. 2 Tennessee. Since then, she has reached base safely in 15 of her last 17 plate appearances and scored 13 runs — including three in each of the past four games. The senior has placed her name in numerous Aggie all-time top 10 lists, including No. 3 in triples (18), No. 3 in hits (247), No. 4 in runs (170) and No. 5 in stolen bases (81). Wooley recently garnered NFCA All-Region Central First Team recognition, adding to her All-SEC Second Team and SEC All-Tournament Team honors this season.
HOME OF THE 12TH MAN
The Aggies own a 164-50 (.766) record at Davis Diamond since it opened on April 27, 2018, and 72-14 in the Ford era. Texas A&M is 53-8 the last two seasons, including a 26-6 record in 2025. The Aggies have posted seven of the program's top 10 attendance marks this season, including a program record 2,754 against Texas Tech on March 1, after having 2,522 against George Washington on Feb. 28. After setting a Davis Diamond SEC series total record of 6,916 against No. 3 Florida, the 12th Man bettered the record with 7,014 in the three-game set against No. 6 LSU. The 12th Man is regarded as one of the most dedicated fan bases in the nation. The Aggies rank No. 5 in the nation averaging 2,137 per game this season.
