No. 9 Volleyball Faces No. 11 Minnesota in AVCA First Serve

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The No. 9 Texas A&M volleyball team opens its 2025 campaign versus No. 11 Minnesota at the American Volleyball Coaches Association's First Serve event Monday evening at the Samford Pentagon with a start time set for 7:30 p.m.
The Aggies embark on their third season under head coach Jamie Morrison's leadership with the programs second appearance in the AVCA First Serve and first since 1997. The Maroon & White enter the year with momentum on their side, following a trip to the Sweet 16 and a senior led roster.
The 17-member group includes 11 returners, while adding a highly touted freshman class which ranked seventh in the nation and a standout outside hitter from the transfer portal.
Retention of production jumps off the page, as the Aggies held on to 96.8% of their kills from last season and 94.9% of their blocking. Experience is also on their side, as the 11 returning players have 749 games under their belts collectively in their collegiate careers.
Garnering national recognition, Texas A&M enters the season ranked No. 9 in the nation by the AVCA, the highest preseason ranking in program history and first appearance on the preseason poll since 2016.
The Matchup
Texas A&M and Minnesota have faced off eight times in their history, with the Maroon & White holding a strong 6-2 advantage in the all-time series. All eight meetings have occurred in neutral sights with the Golden Gophers taking the most recent matchup in 2016.
Looking back at the 2024 campaign, the Aggies' high-flying offense was recognized nationally as they ranked 21st in assists per set (12.98), 31st in kills per set (13.74) and 38th in hitting percentage. On the flip side, Minnesota's defense stood out as they were 17th in blocks per set (2.69) and 38th in opponent hitting percentage (.175).
Each team has a dynamic offensive weapon, as Logan Lednicky leads the line for the Maroon & White ending last season with 492 kills, averaging 4.47 per set, while Julia Hanson paced the Golden Gophers with 473 kills and 4.01 per frame.
