CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The No. 2 Texas A&M women's tennis team heads to the ITA National Indoor Tennis Championships this weekend, opening tournament play against No. 12 Vanderbilt at Atkins Tennis Center Friday at 9 a.m.
With a victory, the Aggies advance to face the winner of No. 6 Oklahoma and No. 18 Texas Saturday at noon. A consolation bracket will also be contested for teams that drop their opening match.
Friday's matchup marks the 19th meeting between the Maroon & White and the Commodores, with the A&M holding a 12-6 edge in the series. The most recent contest came in 2025 when Vanderbilt earned a 5-2 decision in Nashville.
The Aggies enter the tournament with a 6-1 record, coming off a 4-2 road victory at San Diego. The Maroon & White secured four singles courts behind wins from Violeta Martinez, No. 96 Daria Smetannikov, No. 41 Lucciana Perez and No. 46 Mia Kupres to clinch the dual. Perez and Smetannikov are both 6-0 in dual singles action this spring.
Vanderbilt is 5-0 on the season entering the tournament. The Commodores most recently posted a 6-0 sweep of Northwestern and are led by No. 15 Valeria Ray, who owns a 13-6 record during the 2025-26 campaign. They have three other ranked singles players, including No. 24 Celia-Belle Mohr, No. 40 Bridget Stammel and No. 56 Mia Yamakita. Vanderbilt also boasts a No. 3 doubles tandem of Sophia Webster/Celia-Belle Mohr.
