No. 15 Texas A&M Hosts Kentucky in SEC Home Opener

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The No. 15 Texas A&M softball team hosts Kentucky in its SEC home opener beginning Friday at 6 p.m. at Davis Diamond.
The home series continues Saturday at 4 p.m. and concludes Sunday with first pitch slated at 1 p.m. Each game of the series is streamed on SEC Network+ with Texas A&M great and Olympian Tori Vidales (analyst) and Giovanni Heater (play-by-play) in the booth. Fans can also listen on the 12th Man Mobile app or locally on Willy 1550 AM, with Matt Simon calling the action in his 12th season as the voice of Texas A&M softball.

Texas A&M (19-9, 2-1 SEC) ranks No. 14 in the NFCA poll, No. 15 in ESPN/USA Softball and D1 Softball rankings, and No. 17 in Softball America. The pitching staff ranks seventh nationally with a 3.84 strikeout-to-walk ratio and ninth with a 1.10 WHIP, while the offense ranks 10th in on-base percentage (.448) and 20th in slugging percentage (.582). Individually, Sydney Lessentine ranks fifth nationally in walks allowed per seven innings (0.78) and seventh in strikeout-to-walk ratio (8.00). Mya Perez ranks eighth in slugging percentage (1.080) and ninth in on-base percentage (.612).

Texas A&M is 2-1 in SEC play after claiming the series at LSU last week, marking the first series win in Baton Rouge in program history. The Aggies have claimed 12 of 17 series under head coach Trisha Ford. Perez was named the SEC Player of the Week, marking the first weekly honor for Texas A&M this season. Perez slashed .833/.909/2.000 and reached base in 10 of her 11 plate appearances, going 5-for-6 with two home runs, a double, five walks, while adding six RBI and two runs scored. On the season, the Aggies rank third in the league in strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.84) and fifth in WHIP (1.10), while Perez ranks second in on-base percentage (.612) and Kennedy Powell has the second most stolen bases (14).

She boasts a team-best 1.258 slugging percentage in home games and has been walked seven times while owning a .605 on-base percentage.

Powell opened the season by scoring in each of the first 10 games and has crossed the plate in all but six games this season. Texas A&M is 9-2 when she scores multiple runs in a game. Powell and Perez are the only Aggies to reach base safely in every game this season, while the duo owns a nation-leading 31-game on-base streak dating to 2025. Powell has successfully stolen 39 consecutive bases, an NCAA-leading active streak dating to February 2024, after finishing 19-for-19 on stolen base attempts in 2025. The Conroe, Texas, native led the team with seven runs in the SEC opening series at LSU.
