No. 18 Baseball Drops Midweek Contest at Texas State

SAN MARCOS – No. 18 Texas A&M fell in a seesaw battle to Texas State, 9-8, Tuesday night from the newly named Irvine-Rasmussen Ballpark.
Eight hitters in the Maroon & White lineup recorded a hit, totaling ten in the contest with six going for extra bases.
The Aggies (25-7) tallied the first runs of the game in the opening frame behind an RBI double from Caden Sorrell and a single from Jake Duer. Gavin Grahovac drilled a solo homer in the second inning to put the Maroon & White up, 3-0.
The Bobcats (22-10) evened the score in the bottom of the second with a solo homer and a two-RBI double. Texas State claimed a 6-3 lead in the third inning with another three-spot.
Boston Kellner put the Aggies within a run in the fourth inning with a two-run jack to left field. Texas A&M reclaimed the lead in the sixth inning behind an RBI single from Chris Hacopian and a two-out double from Nico Partida, putting the Maroon & White ahead, 7-6.
Texas State tallied three runs in the seventh inning behind two walks and two hits to claim a 9-7 lead.
The Aggies mustered a run in the ninth inning but ultimately could not overcome the late deficit.
Cole Hubert made the start for Texas A&M, allowing three runs in 2.0 innings with two strikeouts. Grant Cunningham worked 3.0 innings of one-run relief, striking out four. Gavin Lyons, Juan Vargas and Ethan Darden each made appearances out of the bullpen. Vargas (2-1) suffered the loss after allowing the go-ahead run on base with a walk.
