
No. 22 Baseball Falls to No. 9 Oklahoma, 8-7, After Late Rally in SEC Opener

The Aggies (15-2) spotted four runs in the first inning to get ahead early. Oklahoma (16-2) answered with two runs on a double and a pair of triples in the bottom half of the first to cut the lead to two.
In the top of the third, Bear Harrison drove an RBI double to put the Aggies up 5-2, but the Sooners responded with two more runs in the bottom half to make it a 5-4 game.
Wesley Jordan scratched two runs back for the Maroon & White in the top of the sixth to go up 7-4. Oklahoma answered right back in the bottom of the sixth with a pair of home runs to even the score at seven.
The Sooners delivered the final blow in the bottom of the eighth with a bases loaded sacrifice fly to go ahead, 8-7.
Chris Hacopian led the Aggie offense, going 2-for-3 with a double and two walks. The junior second baseman scored a run and drove in one RBI.
Shane Sdao worked 3.2 innings as the starter, suffering four earned runs on eight hits and a walk. Ethan Darden, Juan Vargas, Josh Stewart, Hunter Vincent and Clayton Freshcorn each made appearances in relief. Darden and Vincent each dealt scoreless outings in 1.0 and 1.1 innings pitched, respectively. Freshcorn (2-1) suffered his first loss of the season after allowing the go-ahead sacrifice fly in the eighth inning.

T1 | Gavin Grahovac and Caden Sorrell both walked to start the contest. Hacopian put the Aggies on the board with a double off the wall in left field to plate Grahovac. Jordan followed with a walk, and two more runs scored on a throwing error by the Sooners' third baseman off the bat of Jake Duer. Nico Partida grounded out back to the pitcher's mound, advancing Duer to second and Jordan to third. Jordan scored the Maroon & White's fourth run of the frame on a passed ball. A&M 4, Oklahoma 0.
B1 | Trey Gambill led off with a sharp double down the left field line and scored on a Brendan Brock triple off the wall in left-center field. Jaxon Willits plated the Sooners' second run on a sacrifice fly to center field. A&M 4, Oklahoma 2.
T3 | Terrence Kiel II walked with one out and was plated on a double from Harrison to left-center field. A&M 5, Oklahoma 2.
B3 | Camden Johnson doubled to center field, followed by a walk from Brock. Willits singled through the right side to plate Johnson and Brock scored on a single from Deiten LaChance. A&M 5, Oklahoma 4.
T6 | Boston Kellner walked and Grahovac singled to left field. With two outs, Jordan drove a line drive to right-center field to plate both runs. A&M 7, Oklahoma 4.
B6 | Jason Walk reached first on a walk. Brock homered to put the Sooners back within a run. On the next at-bat, Willits shot a home run to right field that evened the score. A&M 7, Oklahoma 7.
T8 | Walk led off with a single to left field and Gambill was hit by a pitch. Johnson advanced both runners with a sacrifice bunt. Brock was intentionally walked, and Dasan Harris plated the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly to center field. A&M 7, Oklahoma 8.
GAME NOTES
- Friday's opener marked the 69th meeting all-time between the clubs. After the loss, the Aggies trail the series 35-34
- 3,727 filled Kimrey Family Stadium for the SEC opener Friday night.
- Hacopian's double in the opening frame was his first in the Maroon & White.
- Grahovac extended his hit streak to eight games and his on-base streak to 11 games.
- Kellner and Kiel have reached base safely in all 17 games this season.
- Sorrell has reached base safely in each of the last 11 games.
